Don Goyo Tuyub Chan has been weaving hammocks since the 1960s in his hometown of Tixcocob, Yucatán (Mexico). Using weaving techniques passed down from his grandparents, Don Goyo has specialized in double-net weaves made entirely by hand, which provide maximum strength and elasticity.
In particular, the Yucatecan weaving technique practiced by Don Goyo is the most iconic and labour-intensive. The method involves weaving forward using separate "guides" (tight and loose threads) that interlace the threads slowly.
Thanks to his experience, it took Don Goyo two weeks to weave this hammock, but it can take up to four weeks of meticulous work.
